Dari awal mengenal sejarah Istana ALhambra beberapa tahun yang silam, saya langsung terpukau dengan keindahannya. Dibalik kesederhanaan tampilan luarnya, istana alhambra menyimpan banyak keindahan dan berbagai kecanggihan arsitektur Islam di masa Lampau. Meskipun pada akhirnya Alhambra harus jatuh ke tangan Kristen Eropa. berikut cuplikan dari sejarah Alhambra, sebuah bukti kejayaan Islam di masa lampau yang tak lekang oleh zaman.   Istana Alhambra didirikan oleh kerajaan Bani Ahmar atau bangsa Moor dari daerah Afrika Utara. Bani Ahmar adalah penguasa kerajaan Islam terakhir yang berkuasa di Andalusia (Spanyol). Istana Alhambra berdiri kokoh di bukit La Sabica, Granada, Spanyol. Ia menjadi saksi bisu sekaligus bukti sejarah kejayaan Islam di Spanyol (dulu Andalusia). Nama Alhambra berasal dari bahasa Arab, hamra’ , bentuk jamak dari ahmar yang berarti “merah”.
